A “No Photos” Weekend
I took a break from photography this weekend, and it felt strange…
I’ve been going out almost every weekend, putting in the miles, the hills, the foot pain, and this summer, the ticks. Sometimes loading up my big backpack with camping and photo gear, and sleeping somewhere in the woods, ready to get up early on location to shoot a sunrise. It’s been fun, but I have to do a better job with the food!
Putting in the camera work… hunting for good photo subjects in the chaotic natural areas I’ve been exploring in PA, is fairly strenuous, but it’s very satisfying to me to find something that strikes my eye, and even more satisfying when it is truly photogenic. It’s tricky, because even after I think I might have a good one in the camera, I need to see how good it really is when processed fully- there’s always a very real possibility that I overlooked something. Until I get it home and load the digital image into the computer, and start playing with the light settings, colors, crops, and so forth. Sometimes it’s a real challenge to make something out of what looked so good from behind the camera- even when I didn’t make any mistakes… and sometimes it’s easy.
The tough ones take some time, and I sometimes have to rest my eyes and my brain, letting the challenge steep in my left brain hemisphere. HA! It doesn’t always work, but what a blast when the tough ones turn out to be something I like!
This weekend I had some things to do around the house, and I wanted to get my photo business online, so I gave the camera a rest. I don’t relish much, the work of cultivating an online presence. I especially dislike keeping up with social media, but I’m pretty highly motivated so it should work out.
Writing a blog could be fun; It’s public journaling, more or less. I hope you enjoy getting to know me, and viewing my work. Please send your comments, and if you do like my work, enough to purchase something, well… yes of course, order it … but I’d also truly appreciate it if you’d spread the word about me and my photographic artwork on the site.
